High school teams in Halton and Peel braved the elements to participate in two 5k culmination events on Nov. 29 and 30.
The Unbreakable Bold and Cold runs were held Saturday at Heart Lake Secondary School in Brampton and Sunday at Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School in Oakville
The Bold and Cold event is also the culmination run of a 12-week high school program available in many high schools in Halton and Peel. The school program promotes health, wellness and fitness.
Runners received a red toque and finisher metal. With pledges, sponsorships and participation registrations, close to $10,000 was raised to help continue the efforts of the Team Unbreakable high school programs.
Team Unbreakable programs are organized by CameronHelps (www.cameronhelps.ca), a local charity supporting physical health for mental health. The charity aims to prevent teen suicide through awareness, reducing stigma and wellness. Team Unbreakable is its flagship recreational run program, now in more than 30 Ontario high schools. It also offers a run-therapy program for hospitals, community and health agencies.
