Team Unbreakable’s “Holiday Giving” Program helps us make a real-world impact in Team Unbreakable Programs Across the Province, and with your support, the Country.

Across the province, students, teachers and community leaders believe in the value of Team Unbreakable.  We teach our young people that running affects their mood, improves their mental health, and gives them a tool to manage stress, anxiety and depression. They build confidence, self esteem and resilience.  That’s why we call it Team Unbreakable!  Help us place more youth in Team Unbreakable programs with a donation today.

Funding is a major obstacle in the development on new Team Unbreakable programs in much needed areas of the province. A $100 donation will support a student through our 12-week program.  A $20 donation will provide a student with a finishing medal and T shirt for the final 5K culmination run.

Team Unbreakable Board Members have pledged to match every dollar received during this December campaign.

That means what you give will have twice the impact!

Please help us to continue and expand our programs in the Toronto area and in other parts of the province. Your past support has been appreciated.  We wish you the very best wishes this holiday season and in the New Year.

Nils Blondon,
Program Director, Team Unbreakable

ROUTE CHANGE  * CONSTRUCTION* – The run MIGHT be starting in the field next to the baseball diamonds and heading west on the grass towards the trail if the path is still under construction. Runners will no longer be diverting left through the Inuksuk park, but rather running straight out along the MGT along the north trail. This is a tighter squeeze than usual, so we ask that all runners be mindful of the children on the route and the roadway. We just received this information, so we appreciate the understanding of all participants!

Race kits are picked up the day of the event. Kit pick up begins promptly at 8 am. The guided warm up will begin at 9:15 am. The race starts at 9:30 am. Bag/Coat check is at the registration table.

All participants receive an official Team Unbreakable winter hat, finishers medal, and breakfast.

Limited parking is available in Coronation Park. Parking options for the area surrounding Coronation Park can be found here : https://parking.greenp.com/find-parking/?a=coronation+park+

The Unbreakable Run Program delivers health promotion, therapy, and physical health for mental health tools to thousands of youth aged participants across the province.

Three Unbreakable Bold and Cold runs finish off fall season

Two Unbreakable Bold and Cold runs in November and one in December finished off an exciting season for students and community members.

In all, almost 400 people participated and approximately $15,000 was raised to support youth mental health programs in the Greater Toronto Area. This was the first year of introducing a Toronto Bold and Cold and the day was declared a success as more than 100 turned out for the event. A GoFundMe campaign was also introduced this year, to help subsidize the costs of participating for those who could not afford the registration fee. “These are important goal events for students participating in the fall program, and it is our policy that no one should ever miss their opportunity. Unfortunately it is also fundraising to ensure the continuation of the program. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the GoFundMe campaign,” said Executive Director Carl Worrell.

“The weather cooperated for all three events. Once everyone got running, they warmed up quickly and after the race, everyone had a chance to eat some hot pancakes and consume a hot drink,” said Carl. “Everyone loved the beautiful finishing medals and the headband (buffs) scarves. Most importantly, though, this race is often the first time a young participant has ever completed a 5k and it is so rewarding to see all the happy, proud runners as they finish the course,” he added.

Participants had a chance to comment after the race and survey results provided some valuable feedback for next year. Overall, the satisfaction levels were over 90% for the events. One participant commented, “Cameron Helps continues to deliver top-notch events with outstanding, enthusiastic volunteer teams and tip-top organization. Thank you!”

The runs were held at Brampton’s Heart Lake Secondary School, Oakville’s Holy Trinity Catholic School and Toronto’s Coronation Park near Exhibition Place. If you missed the events, you can view photos and videos on the CameronHelps’ Facebook page here

GoFundMe campaign helps 32 students go the distance

GoFundMe campaign helps 32 students go the distance at #BoldandCold 5k

The holiday spirit was definitely present in November as donors gave generously to help Team Unbreakable students afford the costs of completing their Bold and Cold goal runs.

Realizing that some students couldn’t participate in their 5k final event, the program staff started a GoFundMe site which raised $1,075 which allowed for 27 students to participate who would otherwise have had to sit on the sidelines.

Emails, tweets and Facebook messages got the attention of 25 donors among the CameronHelps community, who recognized the value of the Team Unbreakable program. It only took two weeks to raise the funds to pay for the registrations.

The Bold and Cold 5k Halton run got a boost from a corporate sponsor, Dr. Ian Shulman of Shift Cognitive Therapy and Assessment. He offered to sponsor a group of youths so they could take part in the Bold and Cold. You can read more here http://shiftct.com/teamunbreakable/

“The GoFundMe initiative was a great idea by our staff. We thank our donors, some of whom wished to remain anonymous, for seeing the need to jump in and help. This provided a tremendous boost to the objective of our program which is to ensure that it is available and inclusive,” said Carl Worrell, Executive Director of CameronHelps.
