In a salute to the unsung heroes of our high school Team Unbreakable program, CameronHelps is profiling some of the dedicated coaches who teach, nurture and run with our youth. Our second profile is with Teresa Lorentz, a Child and Youth Counsellor for St. Elizabeth Seton Saints in Burlington.
Teresa has been a Team Unbreakable coach for one year, and says the students enjoy the lunch-time runs as a way to practice “healthy minds and bodies.”
The 20-year veteran of the Halton Catholic school board says the program is a great initiative to have at the school. “This is the second year we have run the program and the overall experience was very positive and we hope to have more students involved next year,” Teresa says.
“I really enjoyed seeing the kids train and work towards a personal goal. I was happy to see their faces light up before, during and after the runs. There is also great support at our school from the principal, teachers who have helped to coach and from the students and families that participated.”
Teresa says the students enjoy the social aspects of running together, and the teamwork involved in helping others to achieve their goals. “This is a great initiative to promote positive mental and physical health,” Teresa adds.
In her spare time Teresa likes to keep active herself by going to the gym, bike riding and hiking.
